It was a very tiring day, and I’ve spent half of it studying for the upcoming exams and half of it dealing with that damn tea ceremony. Every year, my parents would host our traditional tea ceremony and this year, on my eighteenth birthday, they decided I would be the one doing the performance, so I had to practice hard just to get everything right, to get every little thing perfect. There was no room for error.
I ran my hand through my brown hair before rubbing my aching temples.
“I am so getting a bath when I get home…” I say to myself.
Turns out, I didn’t have to wait until I got home.
Splash.
I was soaking wet in a matter of seconds.
“What the hell?” I mutter in annoyance.
“Oh. Sorry.” I hear a voice say.
I narrow my eyes at the assailant. A girl with long midnight blue hair and thundercloud grey eyes. She was holding a green garden hose.
“What’s your problem? Can’t you watch where you point that thing? I’m all wet because of it!” I scold her, pointing at the long green tube in her hands.
The girl didn’t seem to be paying any attention to me. Her eyes looked far away and her head was obviously in the clouds.
“Hey are you even listening to me?” I ask through gritted teeth, getting more annoyed at her ignoring me.
She didn’t respond, so I directed my gaze to what’s got her utmost attention, the school soccer field.
She was staring at Nanahara Takashi and Hasegawa Junichiro playing ball. I looked back at the girl and saw a glimmer in her eyes. Its strong greyish color seemed to morph into the shades of the setting sun under its multi-colored light.
It was… beautiful…
I turned away from her, embarrassed by my thoughts and saw the flowerbeds. The flowers were all lined up in neat rows by their color and I saw little pieces of cardboard that stated what their names were. There were also some herbs, and like the flowers, their names and uses were also written on the small rectangular boards. It was all very… neat. I glanced back at the bluenette, realizing that this was all her work.
I smirked at my discovery and shook my head at the circumstances that lead to this moment.
I walked up to her, and gently patted the top of her blue crown before leaving her in her daydream, chuckling as I go.
The light breeze seemed to enjoy itself as much as I was as it led me away from the school gardens.
“Suimoto Haruna…” I say to myself, smiling at the mention of her name.
